School Business Officials are collaborating with their communities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the use of fossil fuels in school operations. This presentation will include examples of energy data-collection and reporting, an overview of energy-efficient building design and renovations, and workable policy and procurement solutions. It is based upon my series of articles on environmental sustainability as published in ASBO’s School Business Affairs journals.
1. Examine ways you can successfully communicate to all stakeholders commonly accepted climate action benchmarks.
2. Explore greenhouse gas emission mitigation and SBO management tasks.

Richard Weeks is Emeritus member of ASBO International, Past President of Massachusetts ASBO (retired) and is a Certified Green Classroom Professional from the U.S. Green Building Council’s Center for Green Schools. He is a graduate of Harvard University and serves as mentor to New England school business officials. Presently, he is authoring a series of articles on environmental sustainability for ASBO and participates in Boston-area climate action groups. He has contributed dozens of feature articles to professional journals and books, including the American School Board Journal, Principal Magazine, and School Business Affairs journal.
